Opportunity

When OpenAI launched ChatGPT plugins, Remitly saw a rare window: become the first money transfer service embedded in an AI chat app, before competitors like Wise moved in.

The product designers and I rallied to prepare Remitly’s submission so we could position ourselves as the first remittance provider to live in the market.

The MVP we envisioned: a user connects to Remitly inside ChatGPT, asks about sending money to another country from the US, and our widget is triggered to display the exchange rate, available delivery methods, and a direct path to Remitly’s calculator to complete the transfer.

A lot went on behind the scenes to make that feel simple.

This wasn’t just a feature launch. It was an unfamiliar format with no established playbook.
